Venues

My RYA approved training base is at Kegworth Marine on the River Soar in Nottinghamshire.

Venues and Using Your Own Craft

If you want to use your own craft, the venue will be where ever you require that training to take place or, after consultation with us, a mutually agreed place which may be more appropriate for training purposes (within an agreed area).

Navigations regularly used for Own Boat Tuition are as follows (see descriptions below):

We have even travelled to Europe!

All courses run at local venues incur a small £20 travelling expense. If you wish to have a course outside of the Nottingham area, please contact us to discuss appropriate travel charges.

Trent and Mersey Canal

The Trent and Mersey Canal in this area provides generally sheltered areas of canal suitable for all canal training. In addition there is a reasonable volume of other traffic to provide interest and test the skills in interacting with other craft. It is a broad canal up to Burton on Trent and therefor experience can be gained in broad canal locks.

All but the Advanced Boat Handling Course and the Tactical Flood Responders Course can be taken on the Trent and Mersey Canal.

River Trent

The River Trent in the Nottingham area provides an ideal environment for boat handling training. There are a variety of mooring sites with different problems to overcome, bridges, weirs, current flow and the vagaries of river depth and exposure to the elements. There are also the opportunities to practice advanced boat handling techniques.

Tidal River Trent

If the Tidal River Trent is to be used then the area generally utilised will be between Cromwell and West Stockwith. This offers a variety of challengers to the student. An ideal starting point is either Torksey or West Stockwith or indeed Keadby.

All of our boat handling courses can be taken on the River Trent.

River Soar

The River Soar offers a different environment to both the River Trent and The Trent and Mersey canal. The Soar is a half way house between the above two navigations, enjoying the more open outlook of a river but at the same time being hardly wider than a canal. The current in the Soar can be challenging to boat handlers.

All of our boat handling courses can be taken on the River Soar.
