This course is directed at those who respond to flooding in this country. The course is aimed at experienced boat skippers and those who have the management over other responders. The course addresses all the safety issues that affect the Emergency services and volunteers when they attend floods. It is an ideal flood disaster training course to learn the basic practicalities of Tactical control and safe response.
This course is an in house, innovative course that is not based on anything but my own extensive 4 years of research into wide scale flooding response, including 9 months of full time planning and research for the Nottinghamshire Police Division worst hit by the November 2000 floods. and the experiences of United Kingdom Flood responders and is based on actual incidents in Nottinghamshire and Elsewhere in the UK. This specialist knowledge has its foundation rooted in my 17 years of service with the Nottinghamshire Police River Patrol and other river and canal experience gathered personally and from many, many friends with extensive waterway knowledge and in particular of flood response experience.
Course suitable for All Police officers and volunteers who attend floods, bronze and silver commanders and Fire Officers who plan such incidents. It is also for managers of city and councils who deploy their workforce into such scenarios.
The course is also highly appropriate for those in the community who have such responsibilities as Flood Warden or who will be helping in this field of flood disaster response. Having the right practical skills are essential to ensuring a safe response.
The course has no practical boat handling, as it is a tactical planning course suitable for all flooding responders. However there are daily site visits to previously flooded areas of Nottinghamshire to illustrate points and also for practical planning purposes.
The course will be customised as necessary to suit individual, corporate or community requirements.
Being able to drive a boat is not enough. Pre-flood planning and good tactical planning will keep you and you staff safe on the day. Also it will impart such knowledge as will help keep safe those that are being rescued (duty of care).
